Pregnancy Update: 36 Weeks

How far along are you? 36 weeks on October 9.

How big is baby? A papaya! That’s about 18.7 inches and around 5.73 pounds. According to my app, baby is getting closer and closer to being able to breathe on his own. His skin is getting smooth and his gums are rigid. And his liver and kidneys are in working order! How amazing is that?

How are you feeling? I texted Tyler “I’m so done being pregnant” this week, if that’s any indication of how I’m feeling! I just feel like no matter what I do, I can’t get comfortable. If I stand too much, my feet hurt. If I sit too much, my back/shoulders/ribs hurt. Pretty much the only way I feel “normal” is if I’m lying down, but I can’t really be doing that at work! It’s normal, but that doesn’t mean it’s fun. 😉

Movement: Baby boy is moving around a lot early in the morning and late at night as well as after I eat. I’m still in awe of it every time and I’m glad that it hasn’t gotten old for me. Since he has less room, some of the movements are uncomfortable (he’s up behind my ribs now and knocks into my hip bones sometimes).

Any cravings or aversions? I’ve been really liking ravioli out of a can. But only the Walmart brand, not Chef Boyardee.

Slowly but surely getting all our baby stuff!

Nursery Progress: We moved his dresser and a chair upstairs this weekend, so all the furniture is there now. Once we got the dresser up there, though, we decided on painting it white, so that’s happening sometime soon. Then I’ll just have to put some clothes and random stuff in the dresser to finish that. Tyler is finishing up the pallet wall and then will be making some of those ledge shelves for books this week. It’s coming together!

Weight Gain / Stretch Marks: At my 36-week appointment, I had gained 15 pounds. Still no stretch marks. I haven’t been very good with using my body butter lately, but I’ve always been putting it on after I shower. I use the L’BRI Intense Body Butter followed by Palmer’s Tummy Butter (I love the way this smells!)

Sleep: I’ve been having more “pregnancy insomnia” lately. I’ll be wide awake for a couple hours around 3 or 4am for no apparent reason other than my body preparing me for being awake in the middle of the night? I’ve started reading a book on my Kindle when this happens so I don’t feel like I’m completely wasting my time.

Looking forward to: Not being pregnant anymore. My pregnancy has been pretty easy and overall I’d say that I don’t dislike being pregnant, but I’m to the point where I’m ready to just be done. Mostly because I’m uncomfortable almost all the time.

Having all the baby stuff organized. I’ve been trying to keep on top of this and it’s been pretty easy because it’s fun, but I still have to get a few things like drawer organizers for his dresser, another bar in his closet, etc.

Pictures! I sound like a broken record, but later this week we are taking maternity pictures. I’m excited for Chloe to make me feel like a rockstar – she always does when she takes our pictures! We’re going to an old greenhouse and then downtown for some urban-y backgrounds. It’s gonna be great!

Doctor Appointment: My 36-week appointment went really well! I had an ultrasound to check his position and he’s head down as he should be. Heartbeat was good and he was practicing his breathing too. My doctor said he was about 6 pounds, so he’ll be pretty average-sized. I had to get my blood drawn because I had shown low iron a month ago and they needed to make sure that I didn’t have to up my dosage.

My older sister, Mom, and I went to get our nails done. I just got a gel manicure this time. It was fun to hang out and just have some girl time. As always, it was very relaxing. Of course, I chose a dark neutral because it makes me feel cool. 😉 I plan on going again to get my nails and toes done at the end of October for some pre-baby pampering. I love getting them done, so it’s well worth the money!

We went to our childbirth class. I wasn’t really planning on signing up for one, but my doctor kept recommending it, so we did. Our hospital offers them for free, so we wouldn’t really be out anything if it ended up not being worth it. I ended up knowing both of the nurses that teach the class, so that was fun! AND on the first night, Tyler and I won a drawing they had for a hand-knit baby blanket and onesie. So cute! Tyler didn’t know a ton about labor/delivery/postpartum, so it ended up being well worth our time and I will be recommending it to my friends who have babies in the future.

We got a new car! On Friday the 13th (also known as “Treat Yo’Self Day,” ironically enough!), we went to our local Jeep dealership to check out what they had and a few days later picked up our 2016 Jeep Patriot! We had been looking for another vehicle for quite awhile, but nothing really stuck out to us until then. I’m loving my new wheels. I feel so cool! A white Patriot has been my dream car for awhile and it’s kind of cool seeing that it’s a reality now. Now to get the car seat installed!

That’s pretty much it for now! I can’t believe that we’ll have a baby in around a month. Check out all my previous pregnancy updates here.
