How far along are you? 34 weeks on September 25. I’m starting to feel like it’s crunch time. 😱
How big is baby? A butternut squash! About 17.7 inches and 4.63 pounds. Perfect timing because I’m just starting to make butternut squash soup again. HASHTAG FALL. According to my app, baby is recognizing and reacting to simple songs and is urinating about a pint a day. How crazy is that?!
How are you feeling? Pretty good! I’m feeling kinda huge lately and I ache somewhere on my body just about all the time, but it could be much worse. I’ve also had a touch of nausea lately, so I have to be careful when I take my prenatal or it’ll make me throw up. Reading all of that makes it seem much worse than reality, so I promise it’s not that bad! Haha!
Movement: He’s got less room in there now, so his movements are getting more and more uncomfortable. It’s still so amazing to me. I don’t think I’ll ever get over it. It’s going to be weird not feeling him kicking around in there!
Any cravings or aversions? Chocolate pudding and orange soda. But not at the same time. 😉
Nursery Progress: The crib is finished! And by that I mean that we have a skirt, sheet, mattress, and a cute pillow and stuffed animal for decoration (and only while he’s not in there, of course!). Not that he’ll be using it for awhile, but it looks cute. All of his hanging clothes are organized. We still have to move the dresser upstairs, but that’s happening soon.
Maternity Clothes: Nothing new here other than the fact that I hate wearing pants that aren’t sweatpants or leggings at this point.
Weight Gain / Stretch Marks: At my 34 week appointment, I had gained 14 pounds total.
Sleep: Still waking up a handful of times a night and once in awhile will be up for a few hours in the middle of the night wide awake. HOWEVER, my mother-in-law texted me the other day and asked if I wanted a pregnancy body pillow to which I replied, “Um, YES.” It is my new best friend. I wasn’t planning on buying one for myself because I’ve heard a lot of people who say they aren’t that big of a deal, but I love mine. This is the one she gave me.
Looking Forward To: Pictures! We have maternity pictures scheduled for the middle of October and a lifestyle newborn session scheduled for middle of November after baby is here. Our friend Chloe will be doing both shoots and we’re so excited! She shot our engagement pictures, wedding, and family pictures and we love her. Not only is she super talented, but she’s just an overall great person. She’s the best!
Doctor Appointment: I’m officially in the season where I’m at the doctor’s office every other week, but will soon be there every week until baby is here! 😱 My 34-week appointment went well. We have our pediatrician picked out, but still have to get our living will/advance directives paperwork taken care of. Baby is measuring right on schedule and his heartbeat is good. While she was measuring me she let me know that I was having a contraction, which I didn’t realize. 😅 At my next appointment I’ll have an ultrasound to check his position as well as a test for group B strep. All is well, though!
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
Van and I did our last wedding of the season! As much as I love photographing weddings, I’m happy to see this season end. Mostly because of how hard it was to run around all day on my feet this late in pregnancy. This last one was about 3 1/2 hours away from me so I was driving for 7 hours and working for 9. It was a long, hot, humid day. The wedding was gorgeous and the couple was so kind, which was great! Who knows what next year’s season will look like for me, so I’m happy I got to have a full season this year.
I had my baby shower! Oh my goodness, you guys, we were so spoiled. My mom and mother-in-law threw a super fun party that was about as good as a baby shower could be (this is coming from someone who hates showers). We played a giant game of baby Jeopardy and my dad was the host, which was hilarious! There was a lot of great food and a lot of gifts. More than I expected!
I spent the weekend going through everything and organizing. Most of the clothes we got were in the same size, so I had a whole afternoon of returning/exchanging things at three different stores. Now he is set for clothes for awhile and we only have a few last-minute things to pick up. One of them is his car seat, which is hilarious that that’s one of the last things we’re getting!
I started reading a few baby/parenting books. I’ve been trying to stay away from Google as much as possible, mostly because I tend to psych myself out and overthink things. I also told myself not to read every single book I could get my hands on because everyone is still going to have different opinions, even if it’s in print! I’m currently reading The Confident Parent by Dr. Jane Scott. Up next, I’m going to read Brain Rules for Baby by John Medina and Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin.
