Pregnancy Update: 21-22 Weeks

How far along are you? 22 weeks on July 3.

How big is baby? A coconut! That’s about 11 inches and 15 ounces. How crazy is that?! My bump is growing growing growing and is noticeable in pretty much everything I wear at this point. I’ve been pretty good about taking pictures more often too, which makes me happy. Future Leah will thank me!

How are you feeling? Still feeling good. I’m sleeping well (although I have been staying up later recently, which I need to stop doing!) and only get nauseous once in awhile if I eat too fast or don’t eat anything for too long. I’ve also been feeling really bloated lately. I’m not sure if it’s just because I have an actual belly now or if it’s actual bloating, though. Haha! I’ve been peeing more often too now that baby is getting bigger.

Also, I had my first bought of uncontrollable hormonal crying for [pretty much] no reason. I was washing dishes and getting ready to just clean up around the house like I normally do on Sundays to get ready for the week and just couldn’t stop crying. I just all of the sudden got really overwhelmed with all the stuff I wanted to get done (even though it wasn’t that big of a list) and felt like that for about 2 hours until I finally took a nap and felt better afterward. Wowza! I’m normally an emotional person, but this was definitely my hormones speaking.

Movement: He’s moving around like crazy pretty much anytime I sit still for longer than a few minutes. It’s still such a surreal feeling to me and I hope that it doesn’t start to become just normal. It’s so sweet! Tyler gets to feel him too, which is fun. It’s pretty fun to lie on the couch and just watch him move.

Weight Gain: As of my last doctor appointment, I was 4 pounds under my “normal” body weight. My weight fluctuates by +/- 5 pounds regularly, so I didn’t have a starting weight to really pinpoint. What’s crazy to me, though, is that I’ve been eating, like, THREE TIMES what I normally do and have still “lost” weight. It’s just amazing how many calories growing a baby takes. Doctor says all is well!

Any cravings or aversions? Still not loving meat, but everything else is fair game. I’ve been really loving Drumstick ice cream cones lately and plain Hershey bars. This is new territory for me because I don’t normally have a sweet tooth at all! I’ve been eating fruit more too, so sweets are definitely a favorite lately. I’ve also been through the Culver’s drive-thru several times to get a garden salad with buffalo chicken tenders on it. YUM.

Any maternity clothes? My pre-pregnancy clothes all still fit, but some of my tops aren’t looking as flattering with the bump, mostly because it makes most flowy shirts shorter. I’ve discovered that form-fitting clothing is more comfortable to me at this point, which is totally not characteristic of me! I have several bodycon dresses that will be a staple for me this summer and fall since they’re great for layering! I can still button my pre-pregnancy jeans, but I don’t wear them very often anymore because they’re just uncomfortable (unbuttoned or not!). I got a pair of maternity jeans from PinkBlush and they are LIFE-SAVERS. They are full-panel, which I didn’t think that I would like, but they are the best. [I’m wearing them in the first picture of this post!]

We know that baby is a boy now! I announced this last week, in case you missed it. You can stay updated on Instagram too, if you want! The ultrasound went really well and he was cooperative for all of the important measurements that they need. Toward the end when our tech was trying to get some cute 4d pictures, though, he had his hand up by his face most of the time. Already avoiding the camera! Tyler and I have been looking at nursery stuff now and have a very loose theme/colors that we’re going with. Can’t wait to actually start decorating!

What have we been up to lately? Not a ton of new stuff going on in the Van Ert household! We’ve been hanging out with our group of friends a lot this summer and doing some fun stuff like strawberry picking, going to a flea market, and watching one of our friends play his music live. Tyler and I made dinner together for the first time maybe ever and we decided it’s going to be a regular occurrence around our house. We also started watching The Keepers on Netflix and are hooked!
