New Mom Must-Haves

One of my favorite parts of pregnancy has been spending time researching what I will actually need for this little human that we’re going to be bringing home. I wouldn’t call myself a true minimalist, but I’m definitely a practical minimalist. I like having some things around just because they make me happy, but I mostly stick to items that are both purposeful AND delightful.

That being said, I’ve been trying to keep that philosophy in my mind for all the baby stuff too. There are thousands of articles out there of what you “need” to have on hand when baby arrives, but some of them are so over the top. I tried my best to be practical about what we registered for and what we purchased ourselves so that we aren’t inundated with stuff everywhere.

Today I want to share a handful of the new mom must-haves that I’m most excited about using.

I’ll be updating you after baby is here on each of these products, so stay tuned for that! In the meantime, here are my new mom must-haves.

I would have taken my own picture, but I don’t have a cute baby yet to model! 😉

Okay, when I started seeing these on my Instagram feed, I knew that I wanted to get my hands on one. Mostly because it’s kind of the cutest thing to see a baby in a hammock, but also because it’ll be a practical option that doesn’t include a car seat taking up the entire cart (or using multiple shopping carts).

I’m kind of a crazy person and have already brought it with me to different stores to try it with different carts, and they’ve all fit so far!

Tyler did point out that it’ll probably spark lots of conversations in the grocery store, but it could be worse, right? One good thing is that you can use it to hold your car seat and can just keep a car seat cover or blanket on it, which might help with unwanted conversations with strangers. 😉

This baby was at the very top of my registry and I’m so glad I got my hands on one! Mostly because I’m just so fascinated by the claims I’ve been hearing all over the internet about the magical sleep that it produces with a lot of babies.

Here’s the details if you haven’t heard much about the DockATot:

  • It’s a multi-functional lounger, co-sleeper, and playtime lounger
  • There are two sizes (Deluxe for 0-8 months and Grand for 9-36 months)
  • OEKO-TEX certified
  • Handmade in Europe, designed in Sweden

I know a lot of people who love these! My next goal? To find one in my size. 😉

Now, this is something that Tyler has always been excited about – baby-wearing! Any time he sees a dad wearing their little one, he talks about being excited to do the same thing. We have a couple other carriers, but this will be the one that Tyler uses most, I think.

It’s super lightweight and has a temperature-control panel, lumbar support, and padded straps. It also converts to six different carrying positions (like the name implies), so it’s very versatile! I love that they have very detailed videos on how to do the different positions. It looks really easy!

One thing I made sure to get several kinds of are swaddling “devices.”  The Ollie Swaddle is definitely one that I’m excited to try because it’s always sold out (that usually says something about how great they are) and because it’s the most unique of the ones that I have on hand. Here’s why:

  • The material is moisture-wicking to prevent overheating
  • There’s an opening on the bottom for easy diaper changes
  • The swaddle is meant to be placed below the shoulders so the joints aren’t constrained
  • One-size-fits-most

The fabric is so soft and I just can’t wait to have my own baby burrito!

Okay, this isn’t an “essential,” per se, but hear me out… this rug is MACHINE-WASHABLE, Y’ALL. So, yes, it is essential in my book. I love that this rug works fits with the overall aesthetic of our home and doesn’t look like it only belongs in a nursery.

The best part about Lorena Canals, though? They only use the best raw materials and natural dyes, they maintain a non-child labor production process, and their company provides funding for schooling for children in India. Doesn’t get much better than that!

I love that this rug will provide a safe AND stylish play area for our little one. 🙂

There we have it – a handful of my new mom must-haves!

I’m so excited to use this items with our REAL LIFE BABY that will be here in around a month. How crazy is that?

What are some of your essentials that I need to add to my list? I’d love to know!
